James Harden to wear ‘Free Meek’ shoes on Thursday

When it comes to the friendship between Houston Rockets superstar guard James Harden and Philadelphia-born rapper Meek Mill, it has been well documented as the two have been seen together at nightclubs, on stage at shows, at basketball games and charity events.

In an Instagram story posted on Tuesday on Harden’s official account, he opened up about a recent visit to Meek Mill, who was sentenced to two to four years in a state prison for violating the terms of his parole.

“Got a chance to see my bro Meek Mill today. His spirit is high and hopefully we can get him out by February,” Harden said. “Told me to tell y’all when he get out he got some (fire) for y’all.”

For Harden, the purpose of the visit was to keep Meek Mill’s spirits up during the holiday season. According to a recent article written by DeAntae Prince of Sports Illustrated, Harden plans to make another gesture of support by wearing shoes that “Free Meek” on them when the Rockets visit the Boston Celtics on Thursday at TD Garden.

In a year where he is the front-runner for the 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player award, Harden is currently averaging 32.4 points, 9.2 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game in roughly 36.3 minutes of action per contest.
