James Harden talks about first matchup vs. Spurs

James Harden

Two Western Conference juggernauts are set to match up against each other on Friday, and James Harden weighed in.

The Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs, two of the top three teams in the West, will face off for the first of four games this season. The Rockets have won their last five, while the Spurs have won four of their last five.

Harden was asked on Thursday whether the game against the Spurs, who recently got Kawhi Leonard back in their lineup, was a measuring stick for Houston. He did not exactly provide a straight answer, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

“They’re a good team, but every game for us is a measuring stick. We’re not focused on any other team but ourselves.”

The Rockets hold the NBA’s best record at 22-4, while the Spurs are not far behind at 19-9. The game could be a preview of what’s to come in the playoffs, provided that the brackets line up to make it so.

With Leonard back, it changes the entire complexion of the matchup. He will likely guard Harden and force him into tough situations.

The game should be fun to watch, as it always is with these two Texas teams.
