The Houston Rockets were the best team in the regular season, and they were led by guard James Harden, who is expected to be named the 2017-18 MVP later this month at the NBA awards show.
Harden averaged 30.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game on 45 percent shooting and 37 percent from beyond the arc, but that wasn’t even his most impressive thing he did this year. He led the Rockets to a franchise record 65 wins, which is incredibly impressive, but also not the most impressive thing he did.
If Harden is named the MVP of the league as everyone is fully expecting him to be, he will become the first and only player in NBA history with more career made three trhrows than field goals made at the time of winning the MVP award. With this season included, Harden now has 4,656 made field goals in his career and 4,850 made free throws in his career.
Unfortunately, all of that wasn’t enough to get the Rockets to the NBA Finals as they fell just one game short of the championship round. A lot of that could be attributed to Chris Paul’s hamstring injury in Game 5, which subsequently held him out of Games 6 and 7.
Still, none of what happened in the postseason should take away from his and the Rockets terrific regular season accomplishments, which will very likely land him the MVP award.
