James Harden says Houston is peaking at the right time
Houston Rockets star James Harden has seen the fruits of his labor following the All-Star season, now fortunate to have his full supporting cast healthy as the team prepares to hit the postseason peaking at the right time.
“Yeah, it’s the best we’ve played and it’s the right time,” said Harden, according to Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.
Since the All-Star break, Houston is second in the NBA in offensive rating, defensive rating and net rating, while also boasting the best overall record after the break at 18-4.
The Rockets have picked up steam ever since landing in the 14th spot of the Western Conference early in the season, a true wake-up call that unleashed Harden’s natural scoring instincts into the supernova he’s created under his patented step-back 3-pointer and his periodic trips to the foul line.
Winners of four in a row, Houston has also won eight of the last 10 games, rounding into shape as they ride a half-game advantage over the Portland Trail Blazers for the third seed in the West.
The Rockets would be hard-pressed to replicate a memorable 65-win regular season from 2017-18, but they have bounced back formidably to put themselves in good shape for a deep postseason run, which is their end goal, after all.
Harden’s demonic all-around array of 36.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game this season have helped spearhead this team back as one of the contenders to wing up in the conference finals once again.
