James Harden reacts to getting MVP chants along with Russell Westbrook in Japan

Houston Rockets teammates James Harden and Russell Westbrook were met with MVP chants during their preseason trip to Japan.

Harden and Westbrook — once teammates with the Thunder — were reunited in Houston this summer. The two All-Stars were a great duo in Oklahoma City, but Harden feels they’re destined for more:

“It feels great anytime you hear those chants,” Harden said, via Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic. “Both of us have accomplished that unbelievable goal… I think the reason that we’re here together is to accomplish something bigger than that.”

Westbrook was traded to the Rockets on July 16 for Chris Paul, two protected first-round picks and other draft considerations. In his first preseason game with Houston — a 134-129 loss to the Toronto Raptors earlier this week — the former MVP racked up 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field (1-of-6 from beyond the arc), six assists, two rebounds, one block and one steal in 21 minutes of action. It was his first time playing as Harden’s teammate since 2012.

On Thursday, Harden and Westbrook scored 22 points apiece in a rematch against Toronto. Houston earned a 118-111 victory.

The Rockets will be back for more preseason action on Oct. 16, when they’ll serve as hosts to the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off inside the Toyota Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
