James Harden questionable to play vs. Nuggets due to bruised thigh

James Harden, Rockets

The Houston Rockets may be without their star shooting guard in their next game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, James Harden is listed as questionable with a bruised left thigh.

After starting this season on an absolute tear, Harden has struggled as of late. The 6-foot-5 guard has missed 80 of his last 100 three-point attempts and has shot just 33.3 percent in his last nine games.

Regardless, Harden is still the NBA’s leading scorer at 36.1 per game while also contributing 7.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds per contest. However, while Harden has struggled, fellow star Russell Westbrook has stepped up his game for Houston.

In the team’s last win, Westbrook dropped 45 points while Harden struggled with 12 points on just 3-13 shooting.

As a team, the Rockets have slid around the Western Conference standings all year. As of now, the Rockets are 28-16 which puts them tied for the fifth seed in the conference tied with the Dallas Mavericks.

Without Harden, the Rockets should rely on fellow guards Eric Gordon, Austin Rivers, and Ben McLemore to step in and try to carry the load.

Depending on how long Harden is sidelined with his injury, the Rockets will have to deal without their MVP guard. After Denver, the Rockets’ three-game road streak will continue with the Utah Jazz and then the Portland Trailblazers.

Sunday will mark just the second game this season that James Harden has missed as he has played in 43 of the Rockets 44 games this season.
