James Harden overwhelmingly picked as best shooting guard in new GM survey
Houston Rockets All-Star James Harden was easily the best shooting guard in the NBA last year, and the latest NBA GM survey shows that he’s expected to be dominant again this season. The 29-year-old Harden won his first NBA MVP Award after the 2017-18 season.
He was within one game from his second NBA Finals appearance of his career. His Rockets fell just short of beating the Golden State Warriors when they lost in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.
Last season, Harden Averaged 30.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 8.8 assists. The numbers are similar to what he’s put up in years past. However, what was most impressive is that he posted these stats after the addition of Chris Paul. Now the Rockets have Carmelo Anthony, so the new dynamic of the team will definitely be interesting.
Even going back to last season, 83 percent of NBA GM’s thought Harden was the best shooting guard in the NBA. This year 73 percent of GM’s placed him in the top spot. 10 percent selected Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors. Lastly, 7 percent of voters selected Steph Curry, despite him being a point guard. Devin Booker, Paul George and Victor Oladipo also received votes. This was surprising, considering Booker hasn’t received an All-Star nod. There are other high caliber shooting guards like DeMar DeRozan and Jimmy Butler that are more proven.
Either way, Harden is less likely to win a consecutive MVP Award now that LeBron James is a Los Angeles Laker. However, he will be happy to maintain the top spot on the shooting guard power rankings list.
All of which is cool news for Rockets fans.
