It’s high time for top NBA teams to rest their stars in preparation for the grueling playoff grind ahead of them. This seems to be the same approach the Houston Rockets are undertaking, as it is being reported by Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle that the team will sit shooting guard James Harden, along with Clint Capela, for Tuesday’s home game versus the Chicago Bulls.
The Rockets will hold out guard James Harden and center Clint Capela for rest on Tuesday against the Bulls as part of their plan to begin giving their regulars time off down the stretch, especially if off days can provide a greater break.
It’s an understandable move for the Rockets. For one, they long locked up a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and playing Harden in a meaningless game against a team like the Bulls, who are going nowhere this season, is merely putting the bearded superstar at risk of suffering an injury.
Apart from James Harden and Capela, Chris Paul and Ryan Anderson could also be held out by the Rockets for the Chicago game. Paul has missed Houston’s last three games with a hamstring issue and is currently listed as probable.
As for Anderson, the sweet-shooting big man Ryan Anderson did not play during last Sunday’s home game against the Atlanta Hawks, though the Rockets did not really need his presence as they managed to whip the Hawks, 118-99.
Luc Mbah a Moute, meanwhile, has also been ruled out against Chicago due to a sore knee.
After dealing with the Bulls, the 60-14 Rockets will have two full days of rest before getting back in action on Friday against the Phoenix Suns.
