James Harden leads MVP odds at -350

James Harden

Houston Rockets guard James Harden is having himself an incredible 2017-18 season.

He’s averaging 31.3 points per game, which leads the NBA in that category. It’s the highest scoring average of his career. He’s also putting up nine assists and five rebounds per game, according to Basketball-Reference.

Harden is doing all this on a team that recently surpassed the Golden State Warriors as team with the best record in the NBA. Houston is 44-13.

So it should be no surprise that Las Vegas is picking Harden as an overwhelming favorite to win the MVP award at the end of the season. The odds of Harden winning the award, according to Bovada, is at minus-350.

Looking below Harden’s odds, it’s clear that right now, the safest bet is on Harden winning because he’s such a sure thing. The thing is, however, just to win $100, one would have to bet $350. But because the odds are so high, it could be worth that risk.

But if one wanted to be on LeBron James, who is having an incredible season of his own, the payout could be greater. Betting $100 on James to win could make someone $275 richer.

Of course, if one wants to bet money on these things, they should be done legally.

Whether basketball fans legally bet money on these odds or not, the implication of the odds is very clear. Harden has so far had a better year than James, and is on the better team.

By now, the story of discord within the Cleveland Cavaliers is well-known, and the organization had to trade away six of its players to right the ship. That fact does not do well for James’ MVP case because he’s supposed to be the leader of that team.

Harden, however, has had virtually no issues and now his team has the best record in the league.
