James Harden jokes that the Rockets crowd ‘would’ve attacked’ Michael Carter-Williams if he missed final 3-pointer

Michael-Carter Williams, James Harden

The Houston Rockets broke the all-time record for made 3-pointers in a game on Wednesday, and James Harden jokingly said fans would have attacked Michael Carter-Williams if he didn’t make the final 3-pointer to break the record.

The game was out of reach with under one minute left to play. After a Danuel House miss, the crowd was clearly let down. But Houston was given one more opportunity on an offensive rebound, and the ball found its way to Carter-Williams, a career 25 percent 3-point shooter.

Of course, Carter-Williams drained the shot and helped set the NBA record for most 3-pointers in a game. The lanky point guard is shooting much better from distance this year — 37 percent to be exact. That being said, he’s not attempting many. He has only hit seven all season.

The triple from Carter-Williams was a footnote on a historical performance. But the recent surge from the Rockets is much more intriguing than a single-game record. After a concerning start to the season marred by internal changes and a lot of head scratching, the Rockets are starting to figure things out.

Houston has won five in a row and climbed all the way back into the playoff picture. They currently sit in the seventh slot in the Western Conference with a record of 16-14. The recent dominance of James Harden is a huge reason for their success, and Rockets fans are hoping that the team has finally found their groove.
