James Harden, Joel Embiid named Players of the Week

Houston Rockets star guard James Harden and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid have been named Players of the Week for week 17 by the NBA, which is from February 5 to 11.

The NBA’s official Twitter account posted a graphic that congratulated Harden of the Western Conference and Embiid of the Eastern Conference.

Harden continues to play at an amazing pace for the Rockets that has him as the frontrunner for the 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player award. Over the last week alone, Harden averaged a whopping 33.0 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game and led Houston to a perfect 4-0 record over that span. Heading into Tuesday night’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Rockets (42-13) have won eight straight games and are just half a game back of the Golden State Warriors for the top seed in the Western Conference.

During the 2017-18 the season, Harden leads the NBA in scoring with 31.3 points per game while ranking tied for second in assists with 8.9 per game.

As for the All-Star center Embiid, the big man led the Sixers to a 3-0 week with wins over the Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, and the L.A. Clippers. He averaged 26.7 points on 48.4 percent shooting from the field, 15.0 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game in 30.1 minutes of action per contest during those three games.

In 43 starts this season, Embiid is currently averaging 23.8 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 blocks per game in roughly 31.6 minutes of action per contest.

After Saturday’s 112-98 win over the Clippers, the Sixers (28-25) have now won seven straight games at Wells Fargo Center and looks to make it eight in a row at home when they host the New York Knicks tonight.
