The high-powered Houston Rockets continued their hot streak with their seventh consecutive win on Sunday night. Leading the way as always was superstar shooting guard James Harden.

“The Beard” has picked up right where he left off following his MVP-caliber year. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Harden is off to a historic streak of his own to start the season:

James Harden has 20 points and 5 assists in each of his first 22 games this season. That’s the longest such streak to start a season in NBA history – the previous mark was 14 games by Allen Iverson in 2005-06.

There was some speculation that Harden could see a dip in touches with the addition of superstar point guard Chris Paul. After largely serving as the primary ballhandler last year, a slight dip in numbers was to be expected.

He maintained his role after Paul was sidelined with a knee injury for 14 of the Rockets’ first 15 games to start the year. However, Harden has still managed to put up spectacular numbers since Paul’s return. Needless to say, it is clear that this superstar backcourt pairing will coexist just fine.

Meanwhile, Harden certainly has some elite company in Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. It is likely he would more than welcome the season Iverson had in the 2005-06 NBA season, after finishing with 33 points, 7.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
