Rockets James Harden

Houston Rockets star shooting guard James Harden is taking his leadership skills to another level this season.

According to Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic, Harden has been acting like another assistant coach in Rockets practices, making sure everyone is on the same page and running the plays correctly.

Harden is like another assistant coach on the floor during practice. Assistant coach Brett Gunning often calls out various offensive actions they want to practice. Harden will help his teammates point out which spots on the floor to be on, when to cut or screen, etc.

There was one moment where Danuel House made an incorrect angle at a screen twice, and Harden stopped the play. He called House out and showed the proper positioning. Moments later, Harden found House for a layup.

This is what leaders are supposed to do. Harden knows his voice is important in the Rockets’ locker room.

If either Harden or Russell Westbrook stops a play and starts talking in practice, everyone on the team will listen and pay attention closely.

All eyes are going to be on the Rockets in 2019-20. People want to see if Harden and Westbrook can actually play together and lead Houston to a championship.

Westbrook has averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row, while Harden has led the league in scoring the past two seasons. The Rockets are the only team in the NBA with two MVPs on the roster.
