James Harden gets mixed reactions from Rockets fans in return to Houston

James Harden, Rockets, Nets

Wednesday night was highlighted by the highly-anticipated return of James Harden to his former stomping grounds as the Houston Rockets hosted the Brooklyn Nets in the Toyota Center in Houston. It was the first time Harden was returning to the city following his blockbuster move to Brooklyn, and as expected, he garnered quite a welcome from the home crowd.

Here’s how the fans reacted when Harden’s name was called in the starting lineups (h/t Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle):

That sounded like a pretty even combination of cheers and boos. As it seems, a fair amount of supporters still have the utmost respect for Harden for everything he has done for the franchise. On the other hand, there are more than a few folks out there who are still feeling a bit salty about how things ended between Harden and the Rockets before his trade to the Nets. It could be said that this is a good representation of how Houston fans feel about Harden right now.

Be that as it may, the Rockets still hold Harden in very high regard. So much so, that team owner Tilman Fertitta recently announced the team’s intention to retire Harden’s No. 13 jersey. That’s pretty much the highest honor a player can receive from his former team, so this speaks volumes of how Harden’s relationship with the franchise currently stands.
