Houston Rockets star James Harden was ecstatic about the chance to play with longtime friend Russell Westbrook and confident in Mike D’Antoni’s leadership as a head coach to lead them.

“I’m very excited…. tomorrow (when training camp starts) is the beginning and journey to something great,” said Harden, according to Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic.

The NBA’s leading scorer from last season and MVP runner-up claimed he sees no issues with his pairing with Westbrook, another ball-dominant player.

“I can play off the basketball,” said Harden. “I can catch and shoot. I can be in the wing. I can be in the corner. Vice versa. He can play off the basketball too.

“We’ve accomplished a lot of individuals accolades. It’s time to accomplish (the goal of winning a championship).”

The Rockets star also touted his longtime coach D’Antoni, claiming he’s the right man for the job and the journey ahead.

“He’s the right coach for this situation. We wouldn’t wanna have any other coach,” said Harden. “He gives me confidence and he gives Russ confidence. But he gives that 14th and 15th player that same confidence.”

It seems that despite the contract feud with the front office this summer, D’Antoni still has the team on his side — most importantly the stars of the team in his favor, which should play a strong role in how he’s able to navigate the season and consequently net a new contract in the next offseason.
