Houston Rockets superstar James Harden is still getting his usual numbers on offense, but he has been wildly inefficient during their dreadful four-game slump.
Harden hit a new low in the Rockets’ 107-112 defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday at the Toyota Center. The 6-foot-5 guard finished with 29 points, nine boards and six assists, but he bricked the majority of his shots from downtown in 29 minutes of play. The former NBA MVP went 9-of-24 from the field (31 percent) and missed 16 of his 17 attempts from beyond the arc (5.9 percent).
Bothered by the OKC defense all night long, Harden still kept firing away and dug his team to an even bigger hole with his inefficiency.
Shortly after the let-down at home, Harden stayed on the floor and put up some extra work with a post-game shooting session. The seven-time All-Star then opened up about his horrendous slump.
“Just getting back to the basics. When you’re struggling, you try to get back to the fundamentals and the basics of your shot-form. Form-shooting and things like that,” the Rockets star said, per Salman Ali of ClutchPoints.
James Harden still leads the league in points per game by a wide margin (36.9 points). He also leads the NBA in free throws attempted per game (12.4) and most 3-pointers made this season (198).
Harden has all the green-light in the world to fire away at will in coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense, but he has to think about his shot selection in the coming games. The Rockets have now dropped to sixth place in the West with a 26-16 record.
