James Harden expected to play Monday for Rockets against the Mavs

Rockets, James Harden

Any injury concerns surrounding Houston Rockets superstar James Harden are being downplayed, as he is expected to play against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Rockets’ main source of scoring is dealing with a shoulder issue, but coach Mike D’Antoni expects to have his star not to miss a game. It seemed that Harden was favoring his left shoulder at times during the Houston loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Per the Houston Chronicle, Harden downplayed the injury after game when asked about it.

“I just caught up with Adams. He’s a pretty strong guy. I’ll be all right. I’m not going to make excuses. They played well. They made big-time shots. We didn’t have a great 3rd quarter. That’s the story of the game.” Harden said.

He also downplayed the affect shoulder soreness might have had on big shots at the end of the game. The final score was 117-112, and the Rockets had a 26 points lead at one point in the game. There was even a moment late in the game where Harden could have hit a step back three, but missed the opportunity.

The Rockets are in fifth place in the Western Conference, and losing their star player would not help things. It is a tight race, with just a half game lead on the sixth place Utah Jazz. They are also 7.5 games out of first place.

Harden is averaging 36.6 points per game. He is on a 29 game streak of scoring at least 30 points. If he were to play injured that may come to an end. The good news for the Rockets is that he is expected play in their next game.
