The Houston Rockets have quickly become a powerhouse in the Western Conference through the first few weeks of the season holding the best mark at 18-4.
Much of this has come in the way of putting together wins by comfortable margins against opponents this season. According to NBA.com, the Rockets set a league record after their convincing 118-95 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night.
That 23-point win was the Rockets’ sixth road win in a row by 15 or more points, surpassing the mark of five straight set by the 2011-12 Miami Heat.
Houston has been dominant through the first quarter of the season boasting double-digit leads in 18 of 22 games played where they hold a 16-2 record in such games. They have also won by double-digits 14 times, including by 20-plus points eight times.
This has seen them play equally as well in close contests holding a 4-0 mark in games decided by five or fewer points this season. It has all been fueled by their dynamic offense led by their All-Star backcourt of James Harden and Chris Paul.
Harden played like a bonafide MVP candidate currently holding league-best marks with 31.9 points and 9.7 assists per game. This includes notching 20 points and 5 assists in each of his first 22 games this season. Meanwhile, Paul is averaging a near double-double in his first eight games back with 12.4 points and 9.8 along while shooting a career-high 42.7 percent from beyond the arc.
If the Rockets can remain relatively healthy this season, there should plenty more league records to fall.
