Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta says the team would like to negotiate a contract extension with shooting guard Eric Gordon this summer.

Gordon will make $14,057,730 in 2019-20, the final year of his contract.

With Eric Gordon heading into the final season of his four-year contract, Fertitta said, “We would like to do an extension with Eric if possible,” the Rockets owner told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Gordon is eligible for a four-year extension worth a maximum of $75.6 million.

In 68 regular season games in 2018-19 for the Rockets, Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest. The 30-year-old shot 40.9 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.

The Rockets lost to the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the playoffs in six games. Gordon put up 17.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the 2019 postseason.

Houston’s core at the moment is James Harden, Chris Paul, Gordon, Clint Capela and P.J. Tucker. By all accounts, Fertitta wants to keep that group together.

Gordon won the 2017 Sixth Man of the Year award. He is loved by his teammates on the Rockets and fits in well with Mike D’Antoni’s offensive system. Hopefully, Gordon and the Rockets can come to terms on a new deal this offseason.
