Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner is hoping to create a James Harden Day in appreciation of what the bearded assassin has brought to the Rockets organization and its fans since coming over via trade in 2012.
“James Harden is an MVP, he’s been recognized throughout the country, across the league, but we need to have a special recognition right here for him in Houston,” said Turner. “I wanna do it right before the season officially starts, to have a special day in which we’re recognizing James Harden.
“He stepped up. He is an MVP on the court, but let me tell ya, he’s an MVP in the community as well.”

Harden notably chased the MVP trophy in three of the last four seasons, falling short twice against Stephen Curry in consecutive years and once more against former teammate Russell Westbrook during the 2016-17 season.
His time came around after leading the Rockets to the best regular-season record in franchise history, winning 65 games in 2017-18 and coming a game shy of reaching the NBA Finals. The Beard averaged a monstrous 30.4 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.4 rebounds last season through 72 games, finally garnering the much-coveted MVP award.
The shifty, long-striding scorer will surely be in the MVP race once again, and hopefully his community will be able to give him the proper place in city history before the regular season gets under way.
