Hawks Twitter takes hilarious jab at SportsCenter graphic of Rockets’ Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony

The Atlanta Hawks does not seem to be amused at all by what they believe was a huge omission in a recent social media post. See, SportsCenter recently uploaded a graphic of Carmelo Anthony wearing a uniform partitioned by the different threads he’s worn (and set to wear) in his NBA career, but it only has the Denver Nuggets, the New York Knicks, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Houston Rockets represented in the jersey.

Enter the curious handler/s of the Hawks’ Twitter account, who brought up the big elephant in the room.

To be fair to SportsCenter, it’s easy to overlook the fact that Anthony did in fact spent five days being a Hawk. That was after he was traded by the Thunder to Atlanta via a three-team transaction that also involved the Philadelphia 76ers late last July. Then again, SportsCenter is also one of the last outlets you’d expect to commit a factual mistake. Perhaps SportsCenter felt that it’s just a big waste of time for its intern to add Atlanta’s jersey somewhere in the image since Carmelo was never really going to play there.

Atlanta traded for Carmelo Anthony primarily to shed the onerous contract of point guard Dennis Schroder. The Hawks then bought out the 10-time All-Star’s $25.3 million salary for the 2018-19 season so that Anthony will stay away from the team.

Nevertheless, the Hawks will always have this.
