Gregg Popovich fires back at Rockets protesting their loss to Spurs

Gregg Popovich, Spurs, Rockets

The Houston Rockets will file an official protest with the league office regarding a dunk by James Harden that was incorrectly called a missed field goal in a game against Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs.

The Rockets went on to lose the game 135-133 in double overtime to the Spurs. Speaking to reporters on Friday, Popovich made his first comments about Houston’s protest:

The Rockets are hoping that the final seven minutes and 50 seconds of the game will be replayed with Houston up by 15 points against the Spurs.

The Spurs are 8-14 on the season. Right now, San Antonio is in the 12th spot in the Western Conference standings. They have their own things to worry about rather than a protest by another team.

The Spurs are looking to make the playoffs for the 23rd straight season. After all, it would be very strange not to see Popovich and San Antonio in the postseason.

As was the case last season, the Spurs will ultimately go as far as DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge can take them. The two All-Stars are still figuring out how to play with each other and lead their group in a rugged Western Conference.

There has been talk that the Spurs could trade DeRozan or Aldridge if the losing continues in San Antonio.
