Gerald Green’s favorite player ever is Hakeem Olajuwon

It has been an eventful few days for newly-signed Houston Rockets guard Gerald Green. He made headlines earlier this week after celebrating his signing with his hometown team by getting the Rockets’ logo braided into his hair.

For Green, there is plenty of reason to celebrate. Not only does he get to return to his native Houston, but he has a chance to make an impact on the former team of his favorite player in NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

“I had it,” Green said. “I have a lot of Houston stuff. But he’s my favorite player of all time. I grew up watching him, idolizing him. He’s a wonderful person.”

Gerald Green went on to describe the impact that Olajuwon had on the city of Houston.

“For me growing up, knowing how he impacted a lot of families and taking Houston to championships back-to-back, I know all about that,” Green said. “When my dad was in a bad mood, all of a sudden he could be in a great mood because Houston won.”

This is not Green’s first stint with the Rockets. He was traded to Houston early in his career for a brief period before being subsequently released.

However, it seems the NBA journeyman now has an opportunity to play an integral role on a high-powered Rockets team. Furthermore, Gerald Green can fully live out what has been a childhood dream for him in his native hometown.
