Gerald Green warns NBA not to count Rockets out amid James Harden-Russell Westbrook issue

Gerald Green, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Rockets

Gerald Green isn’t officially part of the Houston Rockets roster just yet, but he sent a bold warning to the NBA as the team tries to keep James Harden and Russell Westbrook.

Per Mark Berman of Fox 26, Green seems well aware of the talk surrounding the Rockets. With both Harden and Westbrook reportedly wanting out of the team, many believe that Houston’s future is unstable. But Green, who’ll have to fight for his spot in training camp, is confident that the Rockets will remain playoff contenders in the upcoming 2020-2021 NBA season.

To recall, Green joined the Rockets in the 2018-19 season. This stint somewhat rejuvenated his career since in the seasons prior, Green was jumping from team to team while putting up mediocre numbers.

Initially known as an athletic swingman, Green worked on his shooting stroke which made him a key piece of Mike D’Antoni’s offense. His averages of 12.1 points and 36.9 shooting from distance impressed the Rockets enough to offer Green a new contract.

However, after resigning with the Rockets in the summer of 2019, Green broke his foot which caused him to miss the entire 2019-20 season. He was then sent to the Denver Nuggets in a four-team trade. The Nuggets waived him not long after.

If ever Green makes it to the team’s opening-day roster, it’ll mark a brand new chapter with the Rockets — a team that has experienced significant changes over the last few months Rafael Stone is their new general manager while Stephen Silas is their new head coach. And the Rockets are making some moves in the offseason. But more importantly, they are trying to court Westbrook and Harden back.

The Rockets present one of the more fascinating theaters of drama among one NBA team as the new season begins. We will soon see if — and how — the pieces can fit together in Houston.
