Gerald Green says Rockets will accept Carmelo Anthony ‘with open arms’

Gerald Green, Carmelo Anthony

Although he’s not officially a member of the Houston Rockets yet, swingman Gerald Green believes that the city of Houston is ready to welcome Carmelo Anthony “with open arms.”

Green, a native of Houston, recently spoke with Mark Berman of FOX 26 about Anthony’s expected arrival.

“He’s a basketball player,” Green said of Anthony. “He’s a basketball player that’s proven. I think, in all of the destinations he’s been to over the years, he’s been kind of… not unwanted, but trying to go somewhere that people accept him.

“I think the Rockets are going to accept him with open arms,” Green added. “If they accepted me — and I haven’t done shh… anything — believe me, we’re gonna accept Melo. I’m glad that he’s here. I think he’s gonna fit just fine.”

According to a report from Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, Melo, now 34 years of age, has verbally committed to joining the Rockets.

Anthony is still a solid scoring option, and he should indeed fit well with the Rockets playing alongside MVP James Harden and Chris Paul.

In 78 appearances with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, Anthony racked up averages of 16.2 points on 40.4 percent shooting from the field (35.7 percent from beyond the arc), 5.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 32.1 minutes per outing.

What this new chapter means for Anthony’s career remains to be seen. Though he’s a 10-time All-Star, it seems like he simply wasn’t always happy with other teams. Perhaps a move to Houston will be just what the doctor ordered.
