Former Rocket Terrence Jones sparks brawl in Philippine league after hitting a player’s groin

Terrence Jones

In case fans are wondering where Terrence Jones is, the former Houston Rockets forward is playing as a reinforcement in the Philippine Basketball Association after his second 10-day contract with the Texas team lapsed.

Jones immediately made headlines for his team, as he scored at least 40 points in three of their first four games. However, the NBA veteran was recently involved in a scuffle that almost led to a brawl during a heated game between Philippine pro clubs Talk N’ Text Katropa and Phoenix Fuel Masters.

In the fourth quarter of the match on Sunday, Phoenix player Calvin Abueva sent Jones down to the floor with a nudge. While he was getting up, Jones appeared to have hit Abueva in the groin area. Abueva grimaced in pain, while Jones was seen dancing after the incident.

Abueva then lost his cool in the next play. After Jones got an offensive rebound, Abueva rushed to him and clotheslined the 27-year-old forward. Jones tried to go after Abueva but cooler heads prevailed. While waiting for the official verdict, Abueva was seen doing his own dance, while Jones was being attended to on their bench.

Abueva was eventually ejected for the brutal hit. According to the league’s official website, Abueva was suspended indefinitely and was fined around $1400. Jones, on the other hand, escaped suspension but was also fined around $1400 for the groin hit and pushing an official during the altercation.
