Five possible Christmas Day games in the NBA being considered

Nick Young

Christmas Day games are always a welcome tradition in the NBA. The schedule makers usually plan for intriguing matchups and 2018 looks to be no different.

According to Keith Smith of RealGM, Boston, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City, Houston, Golden State, and the Los Angeles Lakers are almost definitely penciled in to play on Christmas Day.

Any combination of these games will be must watch. The Celtics and the 76ers will battle each other for supremacy in the less-than-stellar Eastern Conference. Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward will lead a fully healthy Boston squad while Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons look to assert themselves as the top dog in the East.

The Lakers will have the added intrigue of LeBron James and maybe even another superstar by that point. Any team with LeBron is a lock for a Christmas Day game. Now that he’s on the Lakers, the plot thickens. The Golden State Warriors are the most hated team in the NBA and if DeMarcus Cousins is planning on returning in December or January, perhaps he’ll be back in time for the holiday matchup.

The Rockets have the reigning MVP in James Harden, and despite the notion that they may be taking a step back in 2018-19, they’re still one of the most exciting teams to watch. The Thunder may be the worst on paper of these six teams, but they certainly have the star power that warrants a Christmas Day game. Russell Westbrook and Paul George are two of the bigger stars in the game.

The NBA is built on matchups, storylines, and stars. Christmas Day is one of the most important days of the NBA season to showcase everything that makes the NBA great.
