Eric Gordon will come off the bench when he returns from injury

Houston Rockets point guard Eric Gordon will come off the bench when he returns from his knee injury, according to a report from Alykhann Bijani of The Athletic.

Gordon has been sidelined since November 13th, when he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. Most reports indicate that the Rockets are expecting the former No. 7 overall pick to be well enough to return sometime this month, though they’ll likely take a cautious approach. He’s continuing to build up strength in his leg, and he says he feels good.

“I got to get the conditioning part and strengthen my leg. Everything is heading in the right direction. I just have to continue what I’ve been doing,” Gordon, who has begun the running portion of his rehab process, said, via the Houston Chronicle.

The fact that Gordon is nearing a return is great news for the Rockets, who are currently holding an impressive 18-9 overall record despite several injuries to their rotation.

In his nine appearances with the Houston this season (two starts), Gordon has racked up averages of 10.9 points on 30.9 percent shooting from the field (28.4 percent from beyond the arc) and 1.9 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per outing.

The Rockets will be back in action on Thursday night, when they’ll face off against the LA Clippers. Tip-off inside the Staples Center is set for 10:30 p.m. ET, with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
