Eric Gordon vows Houston will break NBA 3-point record again

Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon played a role in his team’s display of fireworks at the Toyota Center, as his four threes aided a record-breaking performance against the Washington Wizards, netting a total of 26 to once again hold the record in their hands.

The veteran marksman vowed this team would break the record yet again at some point.

“We don’t really go for stuff like that, but we know we’re capable of hitting a lot of threes like that. I expect us to do that, it was good to see,” said Gordon after putting up 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-9 from deep, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic. “It was our night, but I think we can do more. We’re gonna break the record again. We can make more than 26 threes. We just gotta continue to do what we do and thrive, but tonight was fun.”

The Rockets have misfired from deep for most of this NBA season but have recently found a groove in the last five wins — with the best example coming Wednesday against the Wizards.

Houston attempts by far the most threes in the NBA and it’s only natural for them to have multiple encounters with history, given the ridiculous pace at which they shoot the three-ball.

“They got a lot of good isolation plays and they made tough threes, the step-back threes were tough and they make them,” said Wizards coach Scott Brooks. “They took 55 threes. We knew going into the game they were going to take a lot of them. They were hot and they’ve been hot for a while now. They have a couple of hot players and there’s not much you can do when they’re making contested threes.”

Gordon likely knows it’s just a matter of time before a team allows them to catch a rhythm and they start nearing the 20-plus makes that can put them at the verge of challenging history once again.
