Houston Rockets sharpshooter Eric Gordon has returned to practice, taking full part in it on Friday and slated to play Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.
Gordon has been missing from the Rockets’ lineup for the past 21 games as he dealt with a right knee injury. The Rockets plan to bring him off the bench upon his return, skipping Saturday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets and suiting him up for the back end of a back-to-back affair against the struggling Pelicans.
It’s likely Gordon will be eased back into the rotation, playing spare minutes at first before getting back to his usual sixth-man role.
The veteran marksman underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair his injured right knee, initially expected to return in time for a Christmas Day matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Yet a couple of days of extra rest won’t hurt him, now in line to miss a total of 23 games after playing in nine of the team’s opening 10 games.
Danuel House Jr. has won the spot of starting small forward for the Rockets, so it’s likely that Gordon continues to come off the bench, barring an absence in the lineup forcing him back in.
Eric Gordon could see ample time as a starter in days when Russell Westbrook sits to rest, though he still is bound to receive a healthy dose of minutes once he gets his wind back after missing the last six weeks.
