Eric Gordon says Rockets’ core being locked up contract-wise makes it easier for them to win the championship

Eric Gordon, Rockets

After agreeing to a contract extension with Eric Gordon, the Houston Rockets now have James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Clint Capela and Gordon locked under contract for the next three years.

Gordon says the Rockets’ core being locked up contract-wise makes it easier for them to win the championship moving forward since players won’t have to worry about being financially stable.

Eric Gordon was entering the final year of his contract next season, so the Rockets guard can now just focus on playing basketball after signing his extension. Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last season while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.

With Russell Westbrook in the fold next to James Harden, the Rockets have a great chance to win the title next season. Westbrook has averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row, while Harden has led the NBA in scoring the past two seasons.

The Rockets will obviously go as far as Harden and Westbrook can take them, but the role players such as Gordon, Capela, PJ Tucker, Austin Rivers and Gerald Green have to play their roles consistently as well. The West is going to be a bloodbath next season, especially at the top. Whichever team gets production from its starters and bench every game once the playoffs start will have the best chance to win the conference.
