Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon agreed to a four-year extension with the franchise on Friday and he’s really happy it got done before the 2019-20 season started.
Gordon was entering the final year of his contract with the Rockets, who gave the former Sixth Man of the Year a $75.6 million extension.

In 68 regular season games in 2018-19, Eric Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists for the Rockets. The 30-year-old shot 40.9 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Gordon wants to retire with the Rockets and he may get that chance. The sharpshooter can’t be traded during the 2019-20 season as a result of the extension. He is ineligible to be dealt for six months, but it looks like the Rockets want to continue to build around Gordon, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Clint Capela.
Houston is one of the teams which figures to compete for the Western Conference title next season. With Harden and Westbrook leading the charge, the Rockets will once again be a juggernaut on offense. They are the only team in the NBA with two MVPs on the roster.
Gordon will make $14.1 million next season and then his new contract will kick in during the 2020-21 season.
