Eric Gordon likely out another week as bruised knee has taken longer to heal

Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon will remain sidelined for another week, according to Brian T. Smith of The Houston Chronicle, as his bruised right knee has taken longer to heal than previously expected.

“I haven’t been able to run or anything, yet,” Gordon said, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle. “It depends on how I feel, but over the last day or two it really started in the right direction. I’ll have a better answer in the next few days.”

Gordon has missed the team’s last four games with the injury and could miss three-to-four more under the current timeline. Bruises are tricky and the swelling in Gordon’s knee makes it tough to anticipate any real progress in healing until it completely disappears, allowing him to take the court in a practice scenario.

The Rockets have gone 3-1 in his absence and are 7-1 without floor general Chris Paul, mostly due to James Harden’s ardent display of high-scoring pyrotechnics to start the year.

Houston has lept into contention, jumping from penultimate place in the Western Conference to as high as fourth, and they’re currently tied with the L.A. Clippers with a record of 23-16 and in fifth place.

Harden has had a grand time taking center stage as the lone scoring option while also facilitating for struggling role players like Gerald Green. He is helping to make use of the recently acquired Austin Rivers, who has proved a natural fit into the roster.

Gordon has had a tough go this season, shooting just 38.1 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from long-range in 2018-19.
