Eric Gordon has a message for the doubters

Eric Gordon, Rockets

Last season, the Houston Rockets were the best team in the regular season. Yet in the postseason, they fell to the Golden State Warriors in seven games. Doubters have turned these facts into bullets. And Rockets guard Eric Gordon has a message for them.

The 29-year-old sharpshooting guard held a question and answer session via Twitter. A fan asked him if they’re going to win the title this year. Gordon didn’t say yes. But he did acknowledge that it’s their number one mission. He also stretched out a jab to the doubters:

The Rockets were just one win away from the NBA Finals. But the Chris Paul injury, coupled with sheer bad luck led to their downfall in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

The Rockets’ playstyle — which exclusively consists of jacking up 3-pointers and lay-ups — was a favorite target by basketball analysts. While this unorthodox playbook found great success in the regular season, deep into the playoffs against the better teams, it wasn’t that effective.

And amidst all the flak they were getting, head coach Mike D’Antoni and crew remained true to their identity. For the Rockets, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. People will continue to doubt them. But as the adage goes, the Rockets will live and die by the three.
