Eric Gordon goes back to driving the ball after outside shooting woes
Over his team’s past few games, Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon has been in a slump, and has not had the same success knocking down shots from the outside, especially beyond the arc. It may add to his woes that he had to adjust once again to having a sixth man role when Chris Paul returned from injury, but he has now found a way to still contribute to his team even if it’s not by way of 3-pointers.
However, the 28-year-old Indiana product made it known recently that he is not worried about the slump he’s in. Eric Gordon also added, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, that the key to still scoring well is his aggressiveness in driving to the basket, and not just being a catch-and-shoot player.
“The ball came to me more, and I just kept on attacking and attacking,” Gordon said. “It started opening up for me. It opened up for our team.”
“When I started coming off the bench, the ball was a little more out of my hands. I became more of a catch-and-shoot guy. As long as we get into transition, I can have a really good game. I can get it to the basket. It’s tough to catch and shoot over a hand all the time. When I get a couple easy baskets, I pretty much know I’m going to have a good game. I have to keep attacking early and get some (shots) to fall.”
During the Rockets’ last game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Gordon finished with 22 points, with only two 3-pointers. Majority of his points came from layups and dunks, showing off his confidence in attacking the rim.
If Eric Gordon continues to play this way, not only could he regain his shooting touch, but it will also benefit the Rockets further in their bid to win the championship this year. Currently owning the best record in the Western Conference, the team is still looking to improve to send a strong message to the rest of the competition that they will be a very difficult team to beat, especially with Gordon in their fold, who can effectively score in different ways.
