Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon believes he’s just entering the prime years of his NBA career.
The 30-year-old signed a four-year extension with the Rockets this offseason. While Gordon heard his name mentioned a few times in trade rumors this summer, he always expected to remain in Houston.
“I know I’m valuable to this team,” Gordon said, via Jenny Dial Creech of The Houston Chronicle. “I think I’ve showed that. I feel like I am going into my prime years. I can shoot, defend, be creative on offense. I have a lot to give.”
Last season for the Rockets, Eric Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. The former Sixth Man of the Year shot 40.9 percent from the field, 36.0 percent from beyond the arc and 78.3 percent from the free-throw line.
Houston will go as far as superstars James Harden and Russell Westbrook can take them, but the role players on the Rockets have to play well and produce consistently in the playoffs. The Rockets’ core is made up of Gordon, Harden, Westbrook, Clint Capela and PJ Tucker.
With Westbrook and Harden leading the charge, the Rockets are legitimate title contenders. They are the only team in the NBA with two MVPs on the roster.
