Draymond Green notes Clint Capela will have to back up January proclamation: ‘Got to play the game now’

Nearly four months have passed since Clint Capela rode an emotional high after capturing a 2-1 lead over the Golden State Warriors in the regular season series.

“We are better than them,” Capela said after scoring 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting in a 116-108 win.

The win secured a tie-breaking situation if both teams wound up with the same record at season’s end, but only a few hours passed before Deadspin.com had front-page bulletin material, headlined “Clint Capela, High on Victory, Says One Sentence Too Many.”

Houston Rockets veterans like Chris Paul and James Harden echoed Capela’s confidence in a much more conservative manner, knowing it could be the young man who awakens a sleeping lion.

Draymond Green, the Warriors resident petty-moment encyclopedia, didn’t hesitate to clear the cobwebs off his memory after moving past the New Orleans Pelicans, securing a dance with the Rockets in a much-awaited Western Conference Finals.

“What did he say?” Green said Tuesday when asked about Capela’s January proclamation of being better than the Warriors, according to Connor LeTourneau of The San Francisco Chronicle. “What’d he say? Yeah, got to play the game now.”

Green isn’t one to forget, and much less to forgive — now fueled with more material to force Capela to back up his claims against a top-tier defender like himself.

Capela has made vast improvements this season, but he is nowhere near the talent of Anthony Davis, a player Green turned into rubble when the two were matched up against each other — despite giving up a decent four inches in the matchup.
