Draymond Green calmly talks about potential WCF meeting with Rockets

The Golden State Warriors are closely trailing the Houston Rockets for the top seed in the West and the best record in the league, with the Rockets holding a 2-1 series tiebreaker this season.

Warriors forward Draymond Green was relatively nonchalant a the situation, despite losing the top seed prior to the All-Star break in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Valentine’s Day.

“I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a slap in the face, because we weren’t going like ‘hey, man, we need to go into All-Star break’ That’s just not something that you talk about,” said Green in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “It’s just different not being in the first spot.”

The Rockets are in a 14-game win streak, the longest of their season, riding a strong momentum in this last stretch of the regular season, but leading only by a half game, as the Warriors have won four straight after the break.

“Whatever seed we end up at, we’ll figure it out,” said Green. “You still gotta go win games on the road if you’re gonna win the series… There are so many teams that we’ll need to take down, and the Rockets as well.”

“You just gotta focus one game at a time, one day at a time, and once you get to the playoffs one series at a time and maybe we end up playing the Rockets. I like our chances no matter who we play.”

Teammate Klay Thompson recently showed a more competitive approach, saying the Warriors would look to go on one of their patented long win streaks and intend to win every game after the break, regardless of how impossible it seems.
