Draymond Green admits he thought Kevin Durant’s injury looked way worse than a calf strain

Draymond Green, Kevin Durant

The entire Golden State Warriors nation breathed a collective sigh of relief upon learning that Kevin Durant’s injury was nothing more than a calf strain. The non-contact injury looked worse in real-time, and even Warriors forward Draymond Green had to admit that he initially thought that Durant had suffered a major injury.

“That (injury) looked like it was way worse than a calf strain,” Green said, via Sam Amick of The Athletic. “You just kind of worry about that. That kind of takes over your mind. I think we did a great job of kind of fighting through that, doing whatever we needed to do to put ourselves in position to win the game.”

Durant was forced to exit in the third quarter of his team’s Game 5 contest against the Houston Rockets after he sustained what initially looked like an Achilles injury. The former MVP winner was visibly in pain and had to head to the locker room immediately. He was unable to return to the game, which led many to believe that he had suffered a season-ending injury.

Thankfully, Durant’s MRI revealed no major damage. Warrior’s head coach Steve Kerr has already ruled him out for Game 6, and this injury could cause Durant more than just a single game on the sidelines. Nonetheless, the mere fact that the injury is nothing more serious than a calf strain is definitely a best-case scenario for the Dubs.

Durant logged 32 minutes in Wednesday’s 104-99 victory against the Rockets, tallying 22 points (on 8-of-18 shooting), two three-pointers, five rebounds, four assists, and a steal before his injury.
