Donovan Mitchell believes Utah has ‘the mentality’ to win NBA title

Donovan Mitchell, Joe Ingles

The Utah Jazz will be facing the Houston Rockets in the first round of the playoffs, and while the odds don’t seem to be in their favor, Donovan Mitchell has already set his sights on a bigger prize heading into the postseason.

The star sophomore, ever confident, believes that the Jazz have what it takes to win an NBA title because of the team’s collective mentality and confidence.

Mitchell led the Jazz to the fifth-best record in the West during the regular season. Home-court advantage won’t be on their side against Houston, but Quin Snyder’s team is used to pulling off upsets. Last season, they were also the fifth seed in the West, but they managed to take down the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round before being eliminated by the Golden State Warriors in the Conference Semifinals.

However, the Jazz will be facing a Rockets team that has one of the most unstoppable offenses forces the league has ever, James Harden. The reigning MVP led Houston to the Western Conference Finals last season, where Mike D’Antoni’s team held a double-digit lead at halftime of Game 7 over the eventual-champion Warriors.

Mitchell’s confidence will be necessary for the Jazz as they begin their playoff run. While a lot of people are counting them out, the Jazz have already proven that they can do some damage in the playoffs, and are clearly looking forward to doing so again this year.

They’ll get the chance on Sunday, when Game 1 tips off in Houston.
