Dennis Smith Jr. getting tips from Chris Paul
New York Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr.’s star is definitely on the rise. He will be entering his first full season as a Knick next year, following his mid-season deal from the Dallas Mavericks last term, and it looks like he is primed for a breakout year.
According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Smith has been tirelessly polishing his game in preparation for the season ahead, and he has been getting some advice from no less than one of the greatest point guards in NBA history in Chris Paul of the Houston Rockets.
According to an NBA source, the Knicks point guard has worked out with Rockets superstar Chris Paul while in Las Vegas, getting tips from one of the smartest playmakers in NBA history.
This is not surprising considering how both Smith and Paul hail from North Carolina, with the former a Fayetteville native, while the latter was born and raised just two hours away in Winston Salem.
Some analysts believe that there’s more than meets the eye with this particular pairing, with the Rockets reportedly shopping out Paul as a potential trade candidate. There have been rumors pertaining to Paul’s problematic relationship with Houston superstar James Harden, and according to some reports, New York is one of his potential landing spots.
Though Rockets GM Daryl Morey furiously denied it, Paul was reportedly on the trading block and offered to the Knicks, who were not interested.
This all appears to be hearsay for now, but given how the Knicks appear desperate for a quality superstar in their lineup, it would not be a complete shock if we see Smith and Paul team up in the future.
