Dejounte Murray suffers knee injury vs. Rockets, to undergo MRI Monday

Dejounte Murray, Spurs

San Antonio Spurs starting point guard Dejounte Murray suffered a right knee injury Sunday afternoon against the Houston Rockets and was forced to leave the game. Murray walked off the court under his own power, but will undergo an MRI on Monday, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

The one thing every team in the NBA wants to avoid in the preseason is injuries. With Tony Parker now with the Charlotte Hornets, Murray is expected to be the full-time starter for San Antonio at the point guard position this season.

Murray played in 81 games last year for the Spurs. He averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 44.3 percent from the floor, 26.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line. The 22-year-old Seattle native also averaged 10.1 points in 48 games as a starter in 2017-18.

Murray made the second-team All-Defensive squad last season. The 6-foot-5 floor general is also one of the tallest and lengthiest point guards in the NBA today, frequently using his size to cause havoc.

Hopefully, the injury is not a serious one and Murray will be ready to play in the Spurs’ regular-season opener on October 17 versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.
