Daryl Morey welcomes Thabo Sefolosha to Houston, apologizes to Rockets fans for using Jazz highlights

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey welcomed veteran small forward Thabo Sefolosha to Houston on Monday via Twitter.

Unfortunately, Morey had to use Sefolosha’s highlights with the Utah Jazz, the team the Rockets have faced in the last two playoffs.

Last season, Thabo Sefolosha played in 50 games with Utah. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 47.7 percent from the field, 43.6 percent from beyond the arc and 63.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Sefolosha’s stats will never jump off the page. However, the swingman is a good defender and locker room presence. Sefolosha also has a rapport with Houston superstar point guard Russell Westbrook — the two were teammates for six seasons on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With Sefolosha in the fold, the Rockets have three stout perimeter defenders, joining PJ Tucker and Eric Gordon.

The Rockets are obviously going to go as far as Westbrook and James Harden can lead them, but they need to have good depth and get solid contribution from their role players once the postseason starts to ultimately win the title.

The 35-year-old Sefolosha has career averages of 5.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 828 total games with the Chicago Bulls, Thunder, Atlanta Hawks and Jazz. He should fit in well in Houston.
