Daryl Morey on the importance of having homecourt advantage vs. Warriors

Apart from having an elite set of players and staff, homecourt advantage would help, too, in beating the Golden State Warriors.

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said that they’ll be targetting the number one seed again this season. He believes that it is important in outlasting the Warriors:

“I think the main thing is that getting the one-seed is important, so we’re going to be shooting for that again,” Morey told Michael Knight of Space City Hoop. “I think to take down Golden State, which is arguably the best team that’s ever played NBA basketball, you’re probably going to need homecourt. We do think the one-seed is important, so we’ll be shooting for that. I think taking it one step at a time, that’s the next goal and to have a great regular season again to put ourselves in the best position to knock off all these tough Western Conference teams.”

The Rockets were just one game away from beating the Warriors. It’s good to note that Chris Paul, one of the league’s best guards, was out for the last two games. Also, the Rockets were up 3-2 before Paul went down. The Rockets did have a legitimate chance of upsetting the defending champions.

What would Carmelo Anthony — the Rockets’ latest addition — bring to the Rockets? Would he be a boon or a bane? Head coach Mike D’Antoni has worked with Melo back with the New York Knicks. It wasn’t much of a dream season but this time around, it could work. Hopefully, it will be enough to snag that first seed.
