Daryl Morey had Deadpool creator draw art of Carmelo Anthony with Rockets in 2014

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey envisioned Carmelo Anthony joining Houston way back 2014 when the future Hall of Famer was making hi big free-agency decision. In fact, Morey commissioned comic book artist Rob Liefeld for some artwork featuring free agents the team had been eyeing that time.

Liefeld is best known as the creator of Deadpool. This particular Rockets-themed artwork featured James Harden, Melo and Dwight Howard.

Of course, Anthony re-signed with the Knicks while Howard had a brief partnership with Harden that ended in zero rings. Fast forward to 2018, and Melo will finally be playing for Morey after signing a one-year deal worth $2.4 million this offseason.

Will Anthony finally become the superhero who propels the Rockets to the promised land? Some believe this is his best chance to win it all, with fellow All-Star Chris Paul and reigning MVP Harden in the fold.

Will Melo accept a supporting role and come off the bench? For a superstar like him, or at least a former one, it might be hard accepting limited minutes. However, the forward registered the lowest output of his career in terms of scoring last season while playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He posted 16.2 points on just a 40.4 field goal percentage, and taking a bench role could be better for him and his new squad. He supposed is open to trying it.

If Melo helps the Rockets win a title this upcoming season, the four years of waiting for Morey and the Rockets fans will have been worth it.
