Daryl Morey believes story about Rockets should be how they are favorites to win the West

Daryl Morey, Rockets

For Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, their narrative should be about how they are the favorites to win the title and nothing else.

Per Sam Amick of The Athletic, Morey reflected briefly on the media coverage on the Rockets as of late. Apart from various free agency rumors, the stories about them have centered on the alleged rift between All-Stars Chris Paul and James Harden.

However, for Morey, the story should focus on how they are the top contenders to win.

“Yeah, it’s been the strangest time in my career,” Morey said while flanked by his daughter, Karen, an NYU film student who recently released a movie about the 2012 Harden trade titled “From 6th Man to MVP. “We’ve had periods where I felt like we deserved bad or negative coverage when we won 41 games a couple years ago, but this year the story should be how we’re the favorites in the West going in. And instead, I keep having to whack-a-mole a bunch of random stories (in the media). …It’s been frustrating.”

Paul himself has denied the rumors about the alleged tension between him and Harden. PJ Tucker, meanwhile, didn’t directly address the rumor and instead pointed out that heated arguments between players are normal.

Indeed, it’s been an interesting offseason for the Rockets — and it might be just the beginning. After all, free agency is just around the corner.
