Clippers news: LA’s emotional tribute video for Chris Paul’s return to Staples Center

After being traded away from the New Orleans Hornets to the L.A. Clippers in 2011, Chris Paul became the franchise centerpiece. Although the team never made it past the second round of the postseason, his contributions to the Clippers were noticeable as the Clippers have had great moments over the years. On Monday night, the Clippers faced the Rockets, which is the first time that Paul has battled his former team. He received an emotional tribute video from his 6-year tenure with the Clippers, and the whole organization and Paul appeared to be grateful.

Paul requested a trade in the off-season to come closer to his dreams of contending for a title, something he felt like the Clippers weren’t able to do. According to Elliot Teaford of The Orange County Register, Paul expressed his dissatisfaction with his former team for not wanting to contend with the Warriors.

“A lot of people see the wins and losses, but it’s the culture of our team,” Paul said of the Clippers in the clip. “If you aren’t trying to contend with the Warriors, then what are you doing? You know what I mean? … If you aren’t trying to contend with them, then what are you doing?”

Of course, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers fired back on Paul’s comments.

“Listen, when you leave, you should just leave, honestly,” Rivers said. “I don’t think you have to try to burn the house down or justify why you left. That’s what I would say to it. I like our culture.

Hopefully, Chris Paul and the Clippers can move on and try to make the best of the rest of this season. Currently, the Rockets are 2nd in the Western Conference, and the Clippers are 9th, one game back from the 8th spot.
