Clint Capela says Rockets are better than Warriors

Clint Capela, rockets

Clint Capela certainly felt confident after taking down the defending champions last night in a tight 116-108 victory. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon quotes Capela:

“We’re confident because we know if we’re doing what we’re supposed to do, we’re going to beat them. We’ve got to keep playing. We know that they’re going to come back if we have the lead, and we’ve just got to keep that mindset. Sometimes I feel like, in the past, we were all dragging down after mistakes. But today, we were ready. I think that if we’re doing what we’re supposed to do on defense — all the switches, the weak side — and keep playing our offense by keeping that mentality all game long, we have the weapons to beat them.

The Swiss center added:

“We are better than them.”

While having confidence is always key to beating top teams in the league, Capela may have taken things a bit too far. That quote could be the fuel that turns the Warriors on in the playoffs. Both of these teams will probably see each other in the Western Conference Finals. It will be very interesting to see the outcome of that series, as the Rockets won two out of three regular-season matchups against the Warriors this 2017-18 campaign.

In their win, the Rockets held Splash Brothers Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson to 6-for-20 and 3-for-11 shooting nights, respectively. Houston also forced Curry and Draymond Green to a combined 11 turnovers. Chris Paul scored 33 points along with seven assists, while James Harden added 22 points and eight assists. If the Rockets can sustain this defensive level and avoid careless turnovers, they have a shot to beat the NBA’s top team.

Knowing how Green loves talking trash, expect an answer from him to Capela’s quote soon.
