Clint Capela is first player to put up 20 points, 25 rebounds in less than 29 minutes

Clint Capela had the best game of this season, finally breaking out what his true potential can be in years to come after a 23-point, 25-rebound performance against the Denver Nuggets on Friday night.

In fact, Capela is the first player in NBA history to manage to score 20 points and pull down 25 rebounds in less than 29 minutes of play, according to Jason Kubatko of StatMuse.

The Swiss international feasted on the opposition, ensnaring seven offensive rebounds on the night and breaking his career-high of 21 rebounds by the third quarter, with the game already well out of hand.

Capela had only reached the 20-rebound milestone once this season, against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 25, but favored greatly from the Nuggets shooting a woeful 3-of-28 from distance, hauling in every ball that was in his airspace.

His 25 rebounds accounted for 52 percent of the Rockets total rebounds, and his seven offensive boards were 63.6 percent of the team’s total — making him the outright catalyst of their massive 130-104 win.

Performances of historic nature like this one clearly explain why the Rockets were so adamant in turning down a potential swap for L.A. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan last month, as the team’s “affinity” for the younger Capela’s untapped potential was a key reason why head coach Mike D’Antoni has gradually rewarded him with more minutes and a more vital role with the team.

While shooters like Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson were viewed as integral parts of the Rockets’ success this season, Capela is now part of a mighty trio alongside the All-Star backcourt of Chris Paul and James Harden — and games like this prove exactly why.
