Clint Capela is eligible for $1 million bonus if Rockets makes it to Conference Finals

Clint Capela, Rockets

Houston Rockets center Clint Capela naturally wants to end his season with an NBA Championship. But in the latest bit of NBA contract hijinx, Capela will want to make sure his squad at least makes it to the Western Conference Finals, where he is due a $1 million bonus upon appearing, per Bobby Marks of ESPN. Capela reached the minutes threshold (2,000) that was necessary to trigger the clause in the contract during Sunday’s win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Capela was all over the boards Sunday, snatching 17 rebounds across just 24 minutes of play. He finished 3-for-4 from the field, collecting eight points, his second straight game scoring in single figures. While his offensive output has fluctuated on most nights, Capela has now reeled off nine consecutive double-digit rebounding performances, having entered the night tied for sixth in the league with 12.5 rebounds per game.

Back from a thumb injury that cost him a month of the season, Capela is in the midst of a career year for a Houston team that officially punched their ticket to the postseason Sunday. There were some lean games in there without Capela in the fold, but he’ll be a vital part of the team not only advancing in the playoffs but potentially climbing the hurdle of Western Conference foes and reaching the NBA Finals.

In 17 games during the playoffs last year, Capela racked up 12.7 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest before the team’s exit in the WCF against Golden State. Should the two teams meet there again in 2018-19, Capela is taking an additional cool $1 million home, win or lose.
